Regulatory compliance

Compliance starts with planning.  Forest Services understands where to look and completes plans compliant with the current regulatory environment.  If caught, non-compliance can be very costly and one of our jobs is to give people the knowledge and/or tools to “stay out of trouble”.  Operational QC will often follow planning – this could include compliance with plans and/or the regulatory environment to ensure an expensive mess does not eventuate.  Most often, it is cheaper to comply from the beginning than take a chance and have to remediate later.

Forest Services is sometimes called to help out where people have got into trouble with Council.  This is often an educational process, but it usually ends up being costly for the forest owner and/or contractor – we would far rather keep people out of trouble than get them out of trouble.

As for commentary under QC, we are fortunate to be involved with some operations where high standards are maintained, so we get to see what good can look like.
